South Africa PANGeA Postgraduate Scholarships
Detailed description.
Stellenbosch University offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships in the humanities. The Gerda Henkel Foundation, which was established by Lisa Maskell in memory of her mother, Gerda Henkel, also provides PhD scholarships for research projects in the historical humanities.
Other Criteria
Being from the Pan-African region, we realize how difficult it can be for you to get access to opportunities that many of us take for granted. There are so many other things going on in your country, not just the quality of education. That’s why we want to help you gain admission into one of our partner institutions. And even if you’re not from that region, you still might qualify for this scholarship. Applicants need a 70% final year mark, and a sample publication or academic article related to their PhD research. At 35 years old, international applicants will only qualify for a PhD scholarship – but they don’t have to have a supervisor right away. Also please note that students who enroll themselves in Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences should inform themselves about any available supervisors first. Finally, here are some qualifications [& what they mean]:
Experience with scholarly publishing: For academics who wish to pursue an academic career, the absence of publications can be fatal and may lead to the denial of tenure at an institution or rejection by an editorial board conferring prestigious awards
Master’s Degree (or foreign equivalent): Recipients must possess or be on track for graduate degree as well as a relevant understanding of the quality
